Microsoft has a new weapon in its Forefront arsenal. Forefront, a line of security add-ons, is moving to protect SharePoint from viruses and other nasties. The SharePoint tool, now in beta, supports a variety of anti-virus engines.

Symantec Not Pleased with Redmond Anti-Virus
Symantec has kept millions of Windows-based computers from falling victim to viruses. I, for one, am thankful. When it comes to Vista, Microsoft thinks it has things covered and isn’t lifting a finger to help Symantec build protections, at least according to Symantec. The problem is a lack of information as to how Symantec tools can tightly integrate with Vista’s own security features. Adding fuel to the fire is the fact that Vista users are prompted to sign up for OneCare, Redmond’s answer to third-party anti-virus products.

As whiny as Symantec might sound here, this was a fight it didn’t pick.

PowerShell Gains Muscle
PowerShell, a new command line tool for Windows Server, should be a nice Christmas present for all you script jockeys. Now, in what Redmond calls Release Candidate stage (in other words, a really good beta), the newest PowerShell test version has better integration with AD. Future versions will support Exchange.
